Christ hymn
“Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2: 5-11, NIV)
This was a well-known hymn in ancient Christian churches. It is known as Christ Hymn. These words explain the humility of Jesus.
No matter how humiliating and humble experiences it may be, Jesus went “there” in obedience and faith. He became a human and even went further to become a servant. He became a servant and even went further to accept the most humiliating and painful death, the crucifixion even though Jesus was the very God who created everything.
Watching all these, the Father was so moved by his obedience, gave everything to his charge. It is like the Father is saying, “You will become a truly wonderful king. There is no one like you.” The Father was so emotionally connected with the story of Jesus. In this hymn, Jesus shows us how humble God is.
